NZXT Phantom Case Review
Conclusions
Contents
The NZXT Phantom is an interesting option for the user who wants a case with tons of features at an affordable price. The overall construction quality, however, can’t be compared to the one found on more expensive products, and therefore if you are freak about quality, you should look for a different product.
Strong Points
- Five-channel fan controller using potentiometers
- Air filter for side and power supply fans
- On/off switch for top fan LEDs
- Meshed bay covers with air filters
- Outstanding number of 3.5” bays (seven)
- Screwless mechanisms on all disk drive bays
- All internal 3.5” bays support 2.5” devices
- Vented slot covers
- Thumbscrews for holding the expansion cards
- Holes with rubber covers for liquid cooling solutions
- A hole in the motherboard tray for accessing the backplate of the CPU cooler
- Holes for routing cables behind the motherboard tray
- eSATA port
- Nice overall looks
Weak Points
- Overall construction quality isn’t at the same level as the more expensive brands
- Magnetic latch isn’t strong enough to hold the front door and during our review one of the hinges of the front door broke (we reviewed a pre-production sample and NZXT may address this problem)
- The black version quickly gets lots of fingerprints all over it
- Doesn’t come with all the fans it supports
- Doesn’t come with an air filter for the optional front fan
