How important good hardware is for a personal injury lawyer
An awful lot of accidents happen every year. In traffic, such as a bicycle accident (Dutch: fietsongeluk), at work or due to a defective road surface. But you can also become a victim of a dog bite. Recovering personal injury is the work of a personal injury lawyer.
In the past, lawyers in general and personal injury lawyers in particular still worked with pen and paper. Hardware and software were hardly used. In fact, did you know that in the Netherlands, until recently, the court still used fax for correspondence with the legal profession? Unbelievable but true.
Fortunately, the Dutch legal profession is now increasingly working with the latest hardware and software. But there is still a lot of room for improvement. But before talking about the hardware and software in personal injury law, it is important to know more about what exactly personal injury is.
What is personal injury?
If you were involved in a car accident, an industrial accident or were bitten by a neighbor’s dog, there is a good chance that you have suffered injuries as a result. This could involve a fracture, whiplash complaints after a rear-end collision, or brain injury because you hit your head on the ground.
As a result of the injury sustained, all kinds of complaints and limitations can arise. For example, in the field of work that causes disability. But due to the injury, you also incur medical costs, travel expenses and you need someone to take over your household duties or maintain your home and garden for you. You will then suffer damage. The damage you suffer as a result of an accident is called personal injury.
Personal injury compensation consists of material damage and damages (Dutch: smartengeld). Material damage consists of all costs mentioned above. This concerns damage items that can be valued in monetary terms. But there is also a right to compensation for damages. Compensation is compensation for the suffering caused to you as a personal injury victim as a result of the accident. This includes pain, sadness about what happened and psychological complaints such as fear of driving or fear of dogs after being bitten by a dog.
Hardware and software for the personal injury legal profession
To recover personal injury damages, a personal injury lawyer needs good hardware and software. As far as the hardware is concerned, it is good to know that a personal injury lawyer often works on location. For example, a personal injury lawyer must go to the client for an intake interview. During the intake, it is discussed what happened and what injuries the victim suffered from the accident. That is why it is important to have a good laptop. This must be fast and have a long battery life.
Hardware is also very important in the office. There must be solutions for printing and scanning. Lawyers still print a lot, especially procedural documents. But scanning entire files and medical documents is also a common activity. Good hardware has therefore become indispensable for a personal injury lawyer.
In addition to hardware, software has also become increasingly important. Special programs have also been developed for the lawyer that enable correspondence with the client, the opposing party, and the court. But agenda management and the drafting and saving of letters are also increasingly done via software specially developed for the legal profession.
